Most just walk on the road through Westerhall but there is a lovely walk beside the river for part of the return walk.

This was a beautiful day and perfect for walking. We finished up with Coffee at The Buccleuch Centre.

 

Bentpath to Potholm in a Blizzard

We always walk from Bentpath through Westerhall estate to see the Snowdrops at this time of year but this week it was not just Snowdrops but snowflakes we had to put up with. Because the weather was due to get worse we parked my car at Potholm and took Tom's to the start at Bentpath Hall. It was only just after we started walking that the snow started and got gradually worse during the 2 hours of our walk. This is the entrance to Westerhall estate.

From Bentpath to Langholm

After the challenges of last Wednesday in Edinburgh it was a much quieter walk today with Niall and I walking 7 miles  from Bentpath to Langholm and Tom joining us at Burnfoot for the remaining 5 miles. The weather was very damp and humid but the rain stopped after half an hour and we arrived home dry but very sweaty. This is taken overlooking The Gates of Eden with Craigcleuch House in the background which Tom has advocated for many years should be turned into an Open Prison. No doubt he has his reasons.

A Walk Through Westerhall

The forecast was for heavy rain this morning so we decided on an Umbrella walk from Bentpath to Langholm through Westerhall Estate. This is my favourite walk and at spring and autumn it is at its best. We were very fortunate because despite the forecast we had no rain.

This is such a beautiful house and the gardens are always perfect.  

Tom is always keen to go to the top of this hill to visit the Folly but we are happy just to photograph it in the distance.

At Burnfoot bridge we met a string of James Ewarts racehorses.

This area at Douglen has been cleared of trees and it makes the road much lighter
