Solway Walk

Tom and I walked from Eastriggs to Annan along the Solway shoreline today which was a distance of about 6 miles. It was a bit difficult in places but nevertheless an excellent walk in fairly good weather. The last mile of the walk follows the old Solway viaduct Railway line and there is a new proposal to build a Barrage Scheme to harnass the tilda power of the strong and fast Solway tides. It may happen, but not for a long time yet.

The photograph is the view over the solway showing the snow covered mountains of the Lake District.

Ranger Led Walk

Today was the first of the Ranger Led Walk's for the season organised by Langholm Walks Group. Unfortunately the weather was awful with snow for at least 2 of the 3 hours we were walking. I had better weather in early February when we were walking in Wales. We had a reasonable turnout however with walkers from all over Dumfries & Galloway and one visitor from the south of England who had been staying at Border House. Despite the weather the company was excellent and all eleven walkers enjoyed the walk.

Easter Sunday with Hannah

We spent Easter Sunday in Newcastle visiting Hannah, Fiona & Mario, and of course to meet up with Han & Jo (Hannah's Opa & Oma) from Holland. Unfortunately the weather was awful so we never got a nice walk, but did have a wonderful lunch and Hannah entertained us with her new singing talents.

Martins Dinner

Martin's 65th Birthday Walk

Martin is 65 this week and we completed another leg of the Border Abbeys Way from Selkirk to Hawick a distance of 12 miles plus another 2 for the times we got lost. Although it is called the Border Abbeys Way you would be hard pushed to find an Abbey in Hawick.

We lunched at the Woll Golf Club in Ashkirk and arrived in Hawick at 4.30pm after a most enjoyable days walking.

Hannah staying in Langholm without Mummy & Papa

Hannah is in Langholm today while Mummy and Papa are still in Newcastle and what fun she has had today with Granny and Granddad. We visited Langholm Initiative offices in the morning and then went to feed the ducks on the Kilngreen and finished up having coffee at Jean's. In the afternoon we went shopping and then went to the park where Hannah had great fun on the swings. She has been a smashing little girl and a pleasure to have staying on her own.
